MANILA, Philippines -- Four-peat champion San Beda College hopes to bring its three-point shooting game as it guns for the solo lead against Lyceum on Wednesday in the 90th NCAA basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.

The Lions, currently tied at the helm with the Perpetual Help Altas on 2-0 (win-loss) slates, killed the Mapua Cardinals with a season-high 14 triples in an 89-55 rout last Friday.

San Beda hopes to use that same weapon when they clash with the Pirates at 2 p.m.

"Our job will be a lot easier if we would continue to make our outside shots," said San Beda coach Boyet Fernandez.

Baser Amer came out firing on all cylinders and hit a career-high seven triples, including a perfect six-of-six in the first half when the Lions made their move. He finished with a game-high 20 points in the one-sided contest.

San Beda will take on a Lyceum team coming off a stunning 74-70 triumph over last year's losing finalist Letran last week for its first win in two starts.

Lyceum drew strength from the strong debut of Cameroonian rookie Guy Mbida, who bullied his way to 15 points and 12 rebounds against the Knights' plastic-thin frontcourt defense.

That is why Fernandez is unleashing a well-rested Nigerian Ola Adeogun on Mbida.

"We need Ola to be aggressive in defense, the team too," said Fernandez of Adeogun, who was taken out as early as the second quarter, thanks to an early breakaway. He finished with 10 points, eight boards, two blocks and a steal in just 16 minutes.

Mapua and Letran, for their part, are seeking their first win of the season after dropping their first two outings in their match scheduled at 4 p.m.
