Pinoy cue artists join Guinness 9-Ball in Jakarta
MANILA, Philippines – Marlon “Marvelous” Manalo will join other Filipinos, including Dennis “Robocop” Orcollo and Ronnie “Volcano” Alcano, in the 2010 Guinness World Series 9-ball Championships in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Just like Orcollo and Alcano, Manalo is looking for a better finish in the Guinness event following his stint in the recent World Pool-Billiards Association (WPA) 9-Ball Championship.
“Baka dito sa Guinness sa Jakarta ay matumbok na din natin ang titulo,” said Manalo, who launched a feeding program and a medical mission in Barangay Malamig, Mandaluyong City.
The former Asian Snooker Champion lost to compatriot and eventual 9-ball champion Francisco “Django” Bustamante during their quarter-finals game in WPA World 9-Ball.
In Jakarta, Manalo will have to go through a qualification tournament set on July 24, which will be participated by other Filipinos like Orcollo, Alcano, Lee Vann Corteza, Antonio Lining, Roberto Gomez, Carlo Biado, Ricky Zerna and Jundel Mazon.
Alex Pagulayan and Antonio Gabica are the only 2 Filipinos already in the main draw of the event that offers $40,000 to the champion.
Also in the tournament’s main draw are Mika Immonen (Finland), Ralf Souquet (Germany), Ricky Yang (Indonesia), Thorsten Hohmann (Germany), Darren Appleton (England), Shane Van Boening (USA), and Johnny Archer (USA).
The Guinness 9-ball tournament will run from July 28 to August 1. -- by Marlon Bernardino
