Rios: I was star-struck against Pacquiao

Former world champion Brandon "Bam Bam" Rios was admittedly "star-struck" when he fought Filipino ring icon Manny Pacquiao in Macau last November 2013.

Rios, although a huge underdog, was tipped to at least give Pacquiao a test because of his tremendous punching power. Instead, Pacquiao gave him a boxing lesson, and he was thoroughly outmatched by the "Pacman," losing a wide points decision.

"I was just star-struck against Pacquiao and I just lost my mind a little bit after the first round," Rios told Boxing Scene. "It was the first time I'd been on that stage."

The Pacquiao fight was the biggest of Rios' career so far, and it resulted in his second consecutive loss. He is now seeking to redeem himself when he takes on Diego Chavez on August 2.

"I know people are writing me off," Rios said, "That I'm a has-been or a never-was."

"So this is important for me. It's do or die for my career, and I don't want to die," he stressed.

Rios, a former world lightweight champion, has not won a fight since October 2012, when he memorably knocked out Mike Alvarado in one of the best fights of that year. He lost a decision in their rematch, however.

"I've pushed everything behind me, including the fight with Pacquiao," Rios told RingTV. "I like to win. That's what the game is all about. I promise I will win on August 2."
