Philippine bantamweight champ Michael Domingo will attempt to wrest the vacant World Boxing Organization Oriental title against Indonesia’s Rivo Renkung on the undercard of the WBA super flyweight title fight between AJ “Bazooka” Banal and Rafael “El Torito” Concepcion at the Cebu Coliseum on July 26.

Domingo, nicknamed “Bruce Lee”, is aiming to win his first regional title and use the victory as stepping stone to bigger fights in the international arena.

The 28-year-old champion has a record of 35-14-2 with 14 knockouts, including a stunning, sixth round shutout over fancied, undefeated Mexican Miguel Roman (22-0, 16 KOs) in the "Philippines vs Mexico World Cup of Boxing" in Sacramento, California on August 11, which the Filipinos won handily, 5-1.

Celebrated trainer Freddie Roach has said he believes Domingo can become a world champion.

In his last fight on April 6, Domingo made short work of Thailand ’s Thepnimit Chitpattana, scoring a second round TKO.

Renkung, who has a record of 27-6-5 with 10 knockouts, is coming off a sixth round knockout over undefeated Philipus Ranga last May 31. He is rated No. 2 super bantamweight by the Indonesian Boxing Association and is expected to add to the excitement of the fight card titled “Laban na Banal”. Ronnie Nathanielsz
