China's Zou Shiming to train with Pacquiao
LOS ANGELES, California - Top Rank continues to bring boxing to the Asian market as the promoters hosted a media workout for Chinese Olympian Zou Shiming and his hall of fame trainer Freddie Roach.
Shiming will fight in Macau on July 27th as anticipation for Manny Pacquiao's return to the ring builds up.
Pacquiao will fight Brandon Rios in November also in Macau.
“Everybody is engaged. They're great fight fans. Zou Shiming has called attention to the sport of boxing so I couldn't be more pleased,” said Arum.
After the July fight, Shiming will also have a spot in the Pacquiao-Rios undercard.
The Chinese Olympian will spend time training with the Pacman in the Philippines, where Pacquiao will spend his whole camp.
“He feels really honored to be able to train with Manny and to be put in the same sentence as Manny because Manny is pretty much the guy to talk about,” said Arum.
While Roach is busy with his Chinese prodigy, he's anxious to get back in the ring with Pacquiao.
About a week ago, rival Floyd Mayweather Jr. called the Pacman “a has been” during a recent press tour.
“He still refuses to step in the ring with us and we want to fight him still and we will find him somewhere down the road,” Roach said.
This will be the second time Top Rank will bring boxing to Asia's gambling capital.
Zou made his debut there earlier this year as an undercard for another Filipino fighter, Brian Viloria.
The Pacman and Rios will join the July 27th show and begin the international press tour in Macau, after that it’s full steam ahead in the Philipines as China's rising star and the Pacman prepare for their November fight night.
