Agbeko edges out Darchinyan
MANILA – Unified super flyweight champion Vic Darchinyan was defeated by International Boxing Federation (IBF) bantamweight champion Joseph Agbeko via unanimous decision.
According to SportsNews.ph, the judges scored in favor of Agbeko, 116-111, 114-113, 114-113.
The Darchinyan-Agbeko fight took place Saturday at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida (Sunday in Manila).
Darchinyan, the IBF-World Boxing Council (WBC)-World Boxing Association (WBA) super flyweight titlist, fell to 32-2-1, with 26 knockouts.
Agbeko, meantime, improved his record to 27-1, with 22 knockouts.
Lee Bates of FightNews.com reported that Darchinyan did not put his IBF super flyweight title on the line against Agbeko. But he would have to inform the IBF if he will defend or vacate such title.
The mandatory challenger for the IBF super flyweight belt is South African Simphiwe Nongqayi, FightNews.com added.
