MANILA, Philippines – (UPDATED) Gilas Pilipinas defeated a pesky Singapore squad, 74-57, to notch their second straight win of the FIBA Asia Cup Monday in Wuhan, China, and move to the top spot in Group B of the competition.

Although considered among the minnows of the competition, Singapore gave a good account of itself thanks to the efforts of Ng Hanbi and Wong Wie Long, who scored 17 and 16 points, respectively.

"He (Long) made the whole thing worthwhile," Gilas Pilipinas coach Chot Reyes told the FIBA Asia website. "We were looking for a good game, and he did provide it for us."

Gary David and Paul Lee each scored 10 points to lead the Filipinos, who led 43-31 at halftime and then held Singapore to only eight points in the third period.

With the Philippines firmly in control of the ballgame, Reyes was able to field in all 11 players on his line-up -- and all except for Marcus Douthit scored.

"The key take for us from this game is that the guys are willing to run hard no matter what," said Reyes. "Of course, it's a completely different challenge, but it's a challenge after all. And our preparation to Spain is all about meeting challenges."

The win was Gilas' second straight victory, after beating Chinese-Taipei, 78-64, in their first assignment.

Gilas now tops Group B ahead of Chinese-Taipei and Jordan, while Singapore dropped to 0-2.

Gilas dominated inside, scoring 42 of their 74 points inside the paint. They converted 47% of their shots while limiting Singapore to only 24% from the field.

Gilas will wrap up its group campaign against Jordan on Tuesday afternoon.
