Lesnar apologizes for UFC 100 ‘meltdown’
MANILA – Reigning Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar said he was overwhelmed by his second round technical knockout win over Frank Mir in UFC 100.
“I’m a sore loser. I don’t like to get beat,” Lesnar was quoted by Dan Wetzel of Yahoo! Sports. “I believe I gave that fight to him. So there was a lot of emotion in this fight for me.”
Lesnar successfully defended his title against Mir, and exacted vengeance for his UFC 81 loss to Mir. He went out in the first round by submission (leg lock).
Following his TKO win on Saturday at the Mandalay Bay Events Center Saturday in Las Vegas (Sunday in Manila), Lesnar taunted Mir and the fight fans who booed him.
Lesnar even told Mir’s fans to keep on booing him before he continued to taunt Mir, noted the Yahoo! Sports report. He also flashed both middle fingers to the crowd. He even took it out on the UFC and the event’s sponsor, Bud Light.
“I’m drinking a cooler full of Coors Light, Coors Light because Bud Light won’t pay me anything,” said Lesnar.
Moreover, he remarked in the post-fight interview, “Hell, I might even get on top of my wife tonight.”
Not the WWE
For what was regarded as a meltdown in the Octagon, Lesnar had this to say: “First and foremost I want to apologize. I acted very unprofessionally after the fight. I screwed up and I apologize.”
“I apologize to Bud Light. I’m not biased, I drink any beer,” he added.
“Man, I was so jacked up. I’m used to selling pay-per-view tickets. I come from a business that is purely the entertainment business,” said the former World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) champion.
It was reported that UFC president Dana White had spoken with Lesnar privately in his locker room. Lesnar described the discussion as a “whip-the-dog session.”
“Brock went so far over the top tonight I can’t even describe it. I don’t think in the history of the UFC we’ve ever done anything like that,” said White.
“You don’t have to act like something you’re not. This isn’t the WWE,” White continued. “I don’t ask these guys to act crazy so we get more pay per views. That’s not the business I’m in.”
KO of the night
White also had a discussion with Dan “Hendo” Henderson, who won over Michael “the Count” Bisping in the middleweight UFC 100 bout.
Bisping suffered a knock out loss to Henderson with 3:20 in Round 2. UFC awarded Henderson the $100,000 “knockout of the night” bonus.
Henderson “dropped a vicious forearm smash on an already knocked out and prone Michael Bisping,” stated the Yahoo! Sports article.
“Hendo” admitted that he did the smash on purpose to get back at Bisping for the “pre-fight trash talk.” After having a discussion with White, Henderson said the talk “felt good.”
