Maidana can only fight one way, claims Floyd Sr.
Controversial boxing trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. said the rematch between his son, unbeaten American Floyd Mayweather Jr., and Argentine brawler Marcos Maidana will likely play out the way the first fight did.
Maidana gave Mayweather a tough challenge when they first fought last May, but the American still won a majority decision. They will have a rematch in September.
"I see it playing out like it played before. It ain't gonna be no different," Floyd Sr. told Fight Hype when asked about his thoughts on the rematch.
He also doubts that Maidana will bring anything different in the rematch, saying: "Maidana can only fight one way."
"When you start (beating him), he's gonna come and use everything he can," he said.
The trainer said Maidana's success in the first fight only came from his roughhousing tactics, including headbutting, wrestling, and hitting Floyd Jr. at the back of his head.
"He's doing everything that is not allowed in boxing," said Floyd Sr.
Floyd Sr. is confident that Maidana won't get to use those tricks in the rematch. "We're gonna have a referee there to stop some of that s*** so it won't happen," he said.
