B-Meg forces Rain or Shine to deciding game
MANILA, Philippines – Parading a new import in Tony Washam, B-Meg Derby Ace routed a hapless Rain or Shine, 92-78, to take Game 4 of their best-of-5 quarterfinals series on Friday at the Cuneta Astrodome.
Wahsam powered the Llamados with 29 points as they leveled the series 2-all and forced the Elasto Painters to a do-or-die duel on Sunday for the right to face defending champion San Miguel in the semifinals.
Helping out with an all-around performance was B-Meg’s Rico Maierhofer who grabbed 14 monster rebounds aside from scoring 8 points and 4 assists.
“Gusto lang naming mag-survive sa series na ito. Never say die, ‘yun ang team namin,” said Maierhofer.
It was all for survival for B-Meg, which sputtered to a 117-111 overtime loss to Rain or Shine last Wednesday.
That loss, which placed Rain or Shine ahead of the quarterfinal race, 2-1, forced B-Meg’s back to the wall.
Thus, the Llamados came out rampaging to a 20-09 lead in the 1st quarter.
Rain or Shine could not find the time to regroup as B-Meg continued its all-out assault in the 2nd quarter, stretching the lead to 43-29.
Rain or Shine import Rod Nealy heroically tried to carry his team past B-Meg but his efforts fell short.
The Llamados’ home run was nearly marred by a clash between B-Meg’s Rafi Reavis and Rain or Shine’s JR Reyes just 5:30 minutes remaining in the game.
Reyes was eventually ejected from the game after being called for flagrant foul No. 2 because of the clash.
