MANILA, Philippines – Undefeated and controversial boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. did not accept the offer to fight Filipino boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao on November 13 as he failed to respond to the deadline set for the mega-fight, according to Top Rank promoter Bob Arum.

“I wanted to do this fight badly, and so did Manny. At a point in time we have to move on,” the venerable promoter said in a report posted on 8Countnews.com.

In a separate report posted on The Sweet Science.com, Arum revealed that he negotiated for the super fight through HBO Sports president Ross Greenburg, who relayed the information to Mayweather’s advisor, Al Haymon.

“I told Ross that Friday (Saturday in Manila) was the deadline. Next week I will be talking to the [Miguel] Cotto camp and the [Antonio] Margarito camp regarding a fight with Manny Pacquiao,” said Arum.

The Top Rank promoter said one of the factors that could have affected Mayweather’s decision is the upcoming trial of his uncle and trainer Roger Mayweather.

Roger is scheduled to go on trial in August for allegedly beating up and choking a female boxer he used to coach.

"It will be a shame if it doesn't happen. But I don't think you guys should be too hard on Floyd," said Arum. "I think the boxing fans are going to be disappointed but they have to cut Floyd some slack."

Although Pacquiao was a bit disappointed that the fight with Mayweather will not push through, he said he is willing to face either Cotto or Margarito.

“Okay lang kahit si Cotto o si Margarito. (I’m okay with fight either Cotto or Margarito),” he said.

When asked on his thoughts on Mayweather’s refusal to face him, he said: “[Ang] mga tao na lang ang humusga (Let the people judge for themselves).” -- With a report from Dyan Castillejo, ABS-CBN News

Pacquiao does not need him

Pacquiao does not need him but the boxing fans really want them to clash. I think UFC is better than boxing.
