MANILA – American superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr. simply cannot escape Filipino ring icon Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao even as he is busy promoting his upcoming rematch against Argentina's Marcos Maidana.

In a press conference in San Antonio, Texas, Mayweather heard several fans chanting for Pacquiao even while he was building up his fight against Maidana.

The controversial American boxer had an answer ready for those fans, however.

"For all the fans that's out there screaming, 'Pacquiao, Pacquiao,'" Mayweather said, "He still got Marquez problems."

Mayweather was referring to Mexican legend Juan Manuel Marquez, who memorably defeated Pacquiao via a brutal sixth round knockout when they last fought in December 2012.

This is not the first time that Mayweather has heard Pacquiao chants while promoting a fight.

In July 2013, while promoting his super-fight against Mexico's Saul "Canelo" Alvarez in San Antonio, Mayweather heard a fan shout "Fight Pacquiao!"

That time, Mayweather responded by saying: "Pacquiao's a has-been. His career is over."

The American also took the time to praise Marquez: "Manuel Marquez is a legend. I commend him."
