Apocalypse-Manila rules Malaysia chess tourney

MANILA, Philippines – International Master (IM) Ronaldo Bancod proved unstoppable as he led the Apocalypse-Manila Chess Team in the KaSUGI Team Chess Championships 2012 late Sunday night at the Citi Tel Express Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Bancod defeated Malaysian Tze Han Ng to lead the Apocalypse-Manila team to a 3-1 victory over Penang B in the seventh and penultimate round.

He then drew with compatriot Carlo Lorena in the eighth and final round as the type lost to Bicol Express, 1.5-2.5, but still emerged as overall champion.

Fifty-eight teams participated in the tournament.

Apocalypse-Manila finished the eight round tournament with six wins, one draw, one loss, 23 board points and 13 match points.
