'Tyson' Marquez to fight Viloria in September: report
MANILA, Philippines – Mexican boxer Hernan “Tyson” Marquez will challenge Filipino-American Brian “The Hawaiian Punch” Viloria in a flyweight bout tentatively scheduled for September 29, according to a Boxing Scene report.
Marquez, the World Boxing Association flyweight champion, will challenge Viloria, who holds the World Boxing Organization belt, at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California.
“I plan to challenge Viloria in September. Viloria is tough, but his style is good for me because Viloria loves to fight,” Marquez said.
Marquez plans to stay at the flyweight division after struggling in his fight against another Filipino, Fernando Lumacad, last weekend in a fight that was contested at junior bantamweight.
“The fight against Lumacad gave me a good idea that 115-pounds is not yet my ideal weight, so I’ll remain a little longer at 112-pounds,” he said.
Marquez is currently rated No. 1 in the RING’s flyweight ratings, while Viloria is rated second.
Boxing Scene reports that Zanfer Promotions is working on putting together the fight between Viloria and Marquez.
