MANILA, Philippines – The camp of Floyd Mayweather, Jr. finally broke its silence regarding its reported refusal to finalize the super fight with Filipino boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao.
Top Rank, Inc. head Bob Arum, who serves as Pacquiao’s promoter, announced last week that Mayweather missed the Friday deadline to agree to face Pacquiao on November 13.
But Mayweather’s adviser, Leonard Ellerbe, revealed a different side to the Mayweather-Pacquiao negotiations saga.
“Here are the facts: Al Haymon [Mayweather's manager], [Mayweather advisor] Richard Schaefer and myself speak to each other on a regular basis and the truth is no negotiations have ever taken place nor was there ever a deal agreed upon by Team Mayweather or Floyd Mayweather to fight Manny Pacquiao on November 13,” Ellerbe said in a statement quoted by Dan Rafael of ESPN.com.
The statement even had the title “Someone’s Lying.”
Ellerbe continued, “Either Ross Greenburg or Bob Arum is not telling the truth, but history tells us who is lying.”
A day earlier, Mayweather declined to comment on the Pacquiao issue, saying that he is presently relaxing and spending time with his family.
“I'm not really thinking about boxing right now,” Mayweather told Tim Reynolds of The Associated Press during a charity basketball game in Miami, Florida. “I'm just relaxing. I fought about 60 days ago, so I'm just enjoying myself, enjoying life, enjoying my family and enjoying my vacation.”

Absurd reality
Arum, however, took a shot back at Team Mayweather.
He told ESPN.com, “This is like absurd unreality. I'm not going to be party to this [expletive]. When I heard about [the statement] I thought it was a joke. Ross said he was talking to Haymon. He certainly wasn't making it up.”
“And Haymon was relaying conversations to Ross allegedly that Floyd had with him. At least that is what Ross says,” added the Top Rank, Inc. big boss.
He also wondered why Mayweather’s camp would release such statement.
“What they said was absurd, but why did they say this? They could say a lot of other things. My feeling is that this is rapidly becoming one of the most bizarre things ever,” commented Arum.
Greenburg, for his part, said in e-mail to ESPN.com: “As always we have no comment.”
Arum, meantime, said he is in the process of arranging Pacquiao’s November 13 fight with either Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto or Mexican Antonio Margarito. – With a report from ESPN.com

Calling on HBO
Leonard Ellerbe accusing Ross Greenburg of lying? Whew! That should give HBO enough reason to throw its weight around the Mayweathers and start sanctioning their future fights. HBO should stop covering all Mayweather's fight from now on. He can go to ShowTime anytime!
If Manny is fighting Miguel
If Manny is fighting Miguel Cotto, it will be an easy win for him. If Manny fights Margarito, it's also an easy win. But if Manny fights Mosley or Williams, that will be the real deal..
