Algieri already contemplating future Floyd fight

American boxer Chris Algieri has yet to throw a single punch towards Filipino champ Manny Pacquiao but he is already thinking about possibly challenging unbeaten superstar Floyd Mayweather in the future.

Algieri will challenge Pacquiao for the WBO welterweight championship on November 22 in Macau, in what will be the biggest fight of his career.

But even before he has faced off against Pacquiao, Algieri is looking ahead to a potential showdown against Mayweather, which he said will be the only option left for him should he defeat the "Pacman."

"I'm looking to shock the world twice this year," Algieri said in a Boxing Scene report.

"(Mayweather) is where we're looking at (after Pacquiao), of course. I don't want to look past Manny, but like you said, there's no other fight after that," he added.

Mayweather has his own problems to take care of, of course, as he is facing the always-dangerous Marcos Maidana in a rematch in September.

Algieri has been the picture of confidence from the moment the fight was announced, and has dismissed those who criticize him for getting a big-money bout against one of the sport's top stars.

"To tell you the truth, it's sour grapes," Algieri told Boxing Scene about people who criticize his fight against Pacquiao. "That's all it is."

"It doesn't affect me negatively or positively. It doesn't give me more fire to do what I do. I'm not driven that way. I'm a self-motivated person, and self-assured," he added.
