MANILA, Philippines – San Beda clamped down on defense in the second half to throttle the Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) Generals, 81-55, and extend its winning streak to five games in the NCAA Season 90 men's basketball tournament Monday at the San Juan Arena.

Up by just single digits after the first half, the Lions tightened the defensive screws and held the Generals to just 22 points the rest of the way to remain on top of the league standings with a 5-0 win-loss record.

"We made a big defensive adjustment on them in the second half, so credit our win to that," said San Beda head coach Boyet Fernandez.

Fil-Aussie Anthony Semerad came off the bench to lead all scorers with 16 points, while Arthur dela Cruz, Ola Adeogun and Kyle Pascual all scored in double-digits as well to help the Red Lions' cause.

Baser Amer played facilitator as he made up for his nine-point effort with eight assists.

The Lions also took away second chance opportunities for the Generals, who had 12 offensive rebounds that they translated to 13 points in the first half but were limited to only three rebounds and no second chance points in the second half.

"In the first half, EAC burned us with a lot of second chance points. Thankfully, we took it away from them in the second," said Fernandez.

EAC rookie Jerald Serrano led his team with 12 points, while Igee King added 10.

The Generals, however, got limited production from their other starters, particularly Cameroonian big man Noube Happi and John Tayongtong, who were held to just eight and five points, respectively.

The Generals fell to their third loss against one win this season.
