MANILA --Jose Rizal happens to be one of the few teams in the league who has the benefit of a deep bench.

On Wednesday, the Bombers showed the Angeles U Foundation Great Danes why.

With most of its starters struggling, Jose Rizal drew strength from his second stringers as it stamped its class over AUF, 82-53, to join San Sebastian on top in Season 85 at The Arena in San Juan City.

John Agas dished out one of his best game thus far by pumping in his season-high 13 points, including three booming triples, to power the Bombers to their fifth win in row.

“It was tougher than what the final score indicated because I was forced to go deep with my bench,” said Jose Rizal coach Ariel Vanguardia, who hope to steer the school to its first championship in 37 years.

“I’m glad my bench stepped up and I have to give credit to John Agas for shining the brightest,” he added.

Big James Sena was the exception as the starting center muscled his way to 19 points and nine rebounds to help the flash Agas energized the team, which need a strong second effort to put the Great Danes away for good.

The seasoned John Wilson, Mark Cagoco and Marvin Hayes played below their averages each game as they finished with only 12, 11 and four points, respectively.

Thankfully, Agas was there to fill in the void.

With the win, JRU improved to 5-0 to tie San Sebastian atop the standings while AUF fell to its fourth loss in five outings.
