Of course I'll beat Pacquiao, says Algieri

MANILA – Undefeated but relatively unknown American boxer Chris Algieri has no doubt he will be able to upset Manny Pacquiao just like he did against Russia’s Ruslan Provodnikov.

“I wouldn't take a fight [I] don't think I'd ever win,” said Algieri in an interview with the boxing media.

The reason for this is that he thinks the Filipino boxing superstar has been fighting the same type of opponents.

“Manny's got a lot of fight, a lot of experience, but the string of guys he fought in the last 5, 6, 7, 8 years are all the same kind of guys,” said the Long Island-native. “I'm not one of those guys.”

Algieri recently dethroned Provodnikov as WBO junior welterweight king by using his counter-punching skills to puzzle the Russian brawler.

Coupled with his longer reach, the 5’11” American said Pacquiao will have difficulties when they face off on November 22 in Macau.

“I do believe that my style is a problem for him,” said Algieri. “It's tough to learn a style that you're not accustomed to and that's what I'll bring to the table.”

Algieri, who is reportedly getting $1.5 million for the bout, also believes the fight will open the doors to even better opportunities.

“It’s all about timing and what you bring to the table… after I beat Manny, I'll have a lot more pull. I'll have a lot more juice to be able to negotiate [for bigger pay],” he said.
