MANILA, Philippines – World bantamweight champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire is already looking for his next opponent.
He said that if possible, he wants to gun for a 5th world title by fighting the winner between super bantamweights Rafael Marquez and Toshiaki Nishioka.
"That's what I'd vouch for, because those two guys amazing fighters. They're good fighters, and I want to test my abilities against those guys," Donaire said on Examiner.com.
Rafael, who will fight Nishioka for the WBC title in October, is the younger brother of Juan Manuel Marquez.
Donaire is likely to fight the winner sometime in December.
He, however, said he is not limiting his sights to the 2 boxers.
Donaire is willing to fight any boxer willing to trade with him.
"There's a lot of names out there that I can fight. There's Jorge Arce, a lot of guys. There's a lot of guys that can make it happen for me. So for me, it doesn't matter who it is. Give me a world championship fight. Give me a World Champion, who believes that they can beat me. Let's go for it!"
Climb in weight
Donaire also plans to climb weight in his next few fights because he is going beyond his usual weight.
“If 118 (bantamweight) can't happen, then I'll look forward to 122 (super bantamweight). And hopefully by next year, I'll be able to fight at 126 (featherweight),” he said.
Aside from being the reigning WBC and WBO bantamweight champion, Donaire is the former holder of the WBA super flyweight interim, IBF and IBO flyweight titles.
