Veteran Filipino cue master Jose “Amang” Parica won the Southern California 14.1 Straight Pool Tournament held over the weekend at Hard Times Billiards in Bellflower, California, by beating Oscar Dominguez in the finals.

AZBilliards.com reported that the finals of the July 26-27 event had “everything that a fan would want in a final.”

It went back-and-forth with safety battles and come-from-behind runs. At one point Parica, led in the 14th rack with a score of 111-67 until he missed a bank on the side pocket.

Dominguez stepped up to the table and made a game of it with a 37 ball run to inch closer at 111-104.

However, Dominguez failed to spread the table in the 17th rack and was forced to play safe.

It quickly became a battle of safeties and an exchange of fouls, some intentional and others unintentional.

Parica soon steadied himself and eventually prevailed 125-117 to pocket the top prize of $1,200 in a competitive field of 45 players including some of the top caliber straight pool  players including  himself, Dominguez and Dave Hemmah. Ronnie Nathanielsz
