De Luna beats Corteza, advances in Guinness

MANILA, Philippines – Filipino power-breaker Jeffrey de Luna blasted compatriot Lee Vann Corteza, 6-2, to advance into the next round of the 2010 Guinness World Series of Pool – 10Ball Challenge at the Mal Taman Anggrek in Jakarta, Indonesia.

De Luna first defeated “Samuel” of Indonesia, 6-3, before sending Corteza to the losers’ bracket of the preliminary rounds.

Also with 2 wins are countryman Alex Pagulayan, who brought down Joni Chandra of Indonesia (6-0) and fellow Filipino Victor Arpilleda (6-2); and Jundel Mazon, who won over Indons Yusuf Rianto (6-3) and Yoni Rachmanto (6-1).

Carlo Biado, Dennis Orcollo and Antonio Lining also advanced to the next round.

Meanwhile, Germany’s Thorsten Hohmann kept his championship hopes alive by beating Indonesian bet M. Fadly (6-3) in the loser’s bracket. – by Marlon Bernardino
