MANILA – So far, so good.

Gilas Pilipinas coach Chot Reyes said naturalized NBA player Andray Blatche is getting along well with his team mates after three days of training camp in Miami, Florida.

“[He’s] starting to assimilate guys playing with him,” Reyes said in Ronnie Nathanielsz’s report to Philboxing.

“[He’s] picking up the offense very quickly and is very animated and very vocal,” added the coach.

Blatche is the newest addition to the Gilas training pool and is seen as one of their main weapons in the upcoming FIBA Basketball World Cup.

The team will be spending one whole week of training with the Brooklyn Nets’ center-forward in Miami, so they will have at least 9 games with the naturalized player before they move to Spain for their tune-up games.

Gilas is also hoping they could get tips from Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra, who may drop by their practice sessions.

Reyes said the team is set for a 2-game scrimmage against the University of Miami before leaving for Spain.

The Gilas coach also said he has yet to make a decision on the final roster that will compete in the FIBA Worlds and the Asian Games.

“[I’ll] make a decision when I have to since FIBA hasn’t as yet given us a deadline for submission of the [final] twelve.”
