MANILA, Philippines -- Letran leaned on Kevin Racal as it survived Emilio Aguinaldo College’s gritty stand, 63-61, to arrest a two-game skid in the 90th NCAA basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City on Wednesday.

The Knights led by as much as 19 points, 35-16, at the early part of the third period off a looper by Mark Cruz.

The Generals came within a point, 61-62 in the dying seconds of the game but failed to capitalize on the opportunity as the Knights held on to their lead.

Racal poured in 19 points, eight of them coming in the final quarter, while helping Letran put up its second win against four defeats.

“What we did is to play defense first before anything else,” said Racal, who co-captains Letran along with Mark Cruz.

The Generals slid to a 1-5 mark.
