JERSEY CITY, New Jersey – Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) legend Abet Guidaben suffered two strokes last week but is now recovering at the Jersey City Medical Center in New Jersey.

Guidaben, who won the Most Valuable Player award twice in his career, was rushed to the hospital two Fridays ago after suffering a stroke.

After he was taken out of the intensive care unit, he suffered another stroke last Wednesday.

Guidaben’s wife, Maridol, said the PBA legend is now experiencing right hand paralysis and slurred speech.

But the Guidaben family is thankful that he is now responsive and able to recognize them.

Guidaben was part of the fabled Crispa Redmanizers squad that won the PBA Grand Slam in 1976 and 1983. He was the league’s MVP in 1983 and 1987, and was recognized as one of the PBA’s 25 Greatest Players.
