'Pacman-Marquez 4' still possible
MANILA, Philippines – Boxing promoter Bob Arum said the fourth fight between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez remains a strong possibility for November.
Arum said Marquez enjoys a huge following and could bring much to the table, despite the controversial outcomes of his first three matches against Pacquiao.
“Marquez’s strength is the Hispanic support that he brings -- which is not to be overlooked -- and the Marquez fight [last November] did 400,000 buys higher than the Bradley fight,” the Top Rank CEO said in Max Boxing.
The boxing trilogy between Pacquiao and Marquez was closely followed by fight fans.
Their controversial third bout was held in Las Vegas last November, wherein Pacquiao escaped with a majority decision victory.
That fight garnered 1.4-million pay-per-view buys.
Top Rank President Todd duBoef said strong Latino support for Marquez helped drive the pay-per-view sales.
Marquez’s coach Nacho Beristain said his fighter will receive word in the next few days about the fourth fight.
Beristain said if they get the fourth bout, they will insist that it takes place in Dallas, Texas, where he believes the fight judges are more reliable.
"They are going to provide Juan Manuel with some news regarding this matter in the coming days," Nacho said in Boxing Scene.
