Arum, Koncz to discuss future fight with Pacquiao
MANILA, Philippines – Top Rank chief executive Bob Arum and Michael Koncz will be coming to the Philippines Monday to begin discussions with Filipino fight king Manny Pacquiao regarding his next fight.
RingTV reported that Koncz and Arum “will board the same aircraft from Los Angeles Monday morning.”
According to RingTV, the top choices for Pacquiao’s next fight, set for November, are rematches against Timothy Bradley, Juan Manuel Marquez and Miguel Cotto.
“We’ve been talking about things already, Manny and I, but I’m in Los Angeles right now,” Koncz told RingTV. “We should know by the end of the week.”
Koncz added that there are “other candidates” aside from the three boxers. “There are a lot of things in the works right now,” he said.
Pacquiao is coming off a stunning loss against Bradley last June 9, in a bout that was investigated by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, the Nevada State Attorney General’s Office, and the World Boxing Organization.
The Filipino boxing icon may still fight unbeaten American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr., though if that mega-fight happens, it will most likely take place next year.
“Floyd just got out (of jail). Floyd’s not ready to fight Manny this year,” Koncz said.
Mayweather was released from the Clark County Detention Center last August 3 after more than two months in jail for domestic violence. He is expected to begin working with his friend, 50 Cent, in running The Money Team Promotions.
