GTK blasts POC on Patafa polls
MANILA, Philippines - Former athletics president Go Teng Kok blasted the Philippine Olympic Committee for what he felt was the Olympic body’s failure to look after the welfare of the association.
Go relinquished the presidency in a recent election that installed former Philippine Sports Commission chairman Philip Juico. The POC, however, did not recognize the polls, saying Patafa still has to create a new set of constitution and by-laws based on the guidelines set by the International Olympic Committee.
This did not sit well with Go, who claimed the POC leadership is picking on the athletics body.
He recalled an incident in the Southeast Asian Games in 2011 when Malaysia’s 4x4 men’s relay team that beat the Phl for the gold medal flunked drug testing.
“The POC did not help the Philippine team claim the gold medal. The Olympic committee has the duty to help the NSA (national sports association) claim the medal,” Go said.
“They’re trying to interfere in the Patafa election. Is that the way POC (shows its) hate (hatred)?” he added.
POC president Jose Cojuangco had said that when Juico meets all the requirements, the latter can call for a new election with the blessings of the POC.
Juico, for his part, had expressed his willingness to comply with the POC requirement and hold another voting.
