MANILA – Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) titleholders BJ “The Prodigy” Penn and Anderson “The Spider” Silva reigned supreme in their clashes at UFC 101: Declaration.

Penn retained his UFC lightweight belt by overcoming Kenny “KenFlo” Florian in the UFC main event held Saturday at the Wachovia Center in Philadephia, Pennsylvania (Sunday in Manila).

“The Prodigy” fought off “KenFlo” by submission (choke) at 3:54 in the fourth round by rear naked.

Thomas Gerbasi of UFC.com reported that Penn sent Florian to the canvass in the fourth round. “While there, Penn went on the attack, getting into the mount and then taking Florian’s back as he fired off kicks and strikes.”

“The kicks did the trick,” said Gerbasi, adding that “as Florian left his neck exposed for the split second Penn needed to sink in a rear naked choke.”

He added that Florian “fought valiantly to break free, but it was to no avail.”

Penn’s record is now at 14-5-1. Florian, on the other hand, stands at 13-4.

Silva fulfills prediction

In the co-feature event, UFC middleweight champion Silva was victorious in his junior heavyweight match against Forrest Griffin.

“The Spider” knocked out Griffin, a former UFC junior heavyweight champion, at 3:23 in the first round.

With the knockout win, Silva’s record is now 25-4 while Griffin’s is 16-6.

Silva earlier told UFC.com that somebody will get knockout out in his match. “It’s not gonna go to a decision.”

“I’m definitely gonna go in there to knock him out,” he added.

He was able to fulfill his bold prediction by throwing a “right hand while moving backwards and caught Griffin flush,” wrote Gerbasi. “The Las Vegan dropped to his back, but as Silva moved in, Griffin decided he had enough.”

Meanwhile, in the undercard matches, Johny Hendricks defeated Amir Sadollah by technical knockout at 0:29 in the first round. Ricardo “Big Dog” Almeida beat Kendall “Da Spyder” Grove via unanimous decision.

Kurt “Batman” Pellegrino also posted a win by unanimous decision over Josh “The Dentist” Neer.
