50 Cent claims he can make Pac-Floyd fight
MANILA, Philippines – Rapper 50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, has only recently started his career as a boxing promoter, but he is confident that he can put together one of the most long-awaited matches of all time: a clash between pound-for-pound kings Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr.
50 Cent recently started The Money Team (TMT) Promotions, which he will run with the unbeaten American boxer, who was released from jail just last week.
“I believe I can (make the fight happen),” the rapper said, as quoted by Boxing Scene. “I believe I’m a big reason why the possibility is coming closer.”
A Pacquiao-Mayweather mega-fight is considered to be the richest fight that can be made in boxing, and is projected to break all records for pay-per-view buys and gate attendance.
But the two camps have never been able to agree, especially as Pacquiao is promoted by Top Rank, while Mayweather usually works with Golden Boy Promotions. The two promotional companies have an icy relationship and have rarely been able to work together.
50 Cent believes that with TMT Promotions in the picture, the mega-fight now becomes possible. It has been widely rumored that Mayweather will stop working with Golden Boy and now promote his fights through TMT.
“We are in close communications (with Top Rank),” 50 Cent revealed. “So hopefully, we can get the show going.”
TMT Promotions have already signed some promising boxers, including unbeaten featherweight star Yuriorkis Gamboa.
