All set for nat'l junior chess finals
MANILA, Philippines – All chess roads lead to Manila for the staging of the 2013 National Juniors Grand Finals for boys and girls on August 16 to 20 at the PSC Conference Hall in the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.
An annual undertaking of the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP), the nine-round competition is open to players 20 years old and below and members in good standing of the NCFP.
A copy of a birth certificate or any other proof of age must be submitted by all participants upon registration.
Some titled players, including National Masters, Fide Masters and International Masters, are expected to see action in the event.
Also eligible to participate are the qualifiers in the semi-finals of the 2013 National Juniors, the top three players in all elimination phases of the 2013 National Age-Group Championships, and the top six players in the finals of the 2013 National Age Group Chess Championships.
The registration fee is P300 for NCFP members. An additional P300 will be charged to non-NCFP members.
NCFP executive director Jayson Gonzales said the tournament will be divided into a boys’ division and a girls’ division.
The champion of both divisions may join GM Wesley So as the representative of the Philippines in the upcoming World Junior Under 20 Chess Championships in Turkey this September.
The champions may also receive consideration for inclusion in the roster of the national pool of athletes.
