MANILA – Just a week after their epic battle, the Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) Blue Eagles and the De La Salle University (DLSU) Green Archers will again collide on Sunday in the 72nd University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) at the Araneta Coliseum.
The Green Archers are looking to exact revenge against the Blue Eagles, who came up with a 76-72 win via overtime the last time they met.
This, however, will be a tall order for DLSU, which is coming off a 55-61 loss to the Adamson Falcons.
The Blue Eagles, on the other hand, will head to this game following an “ugly” 80-75 win over the University of the East (UE) Red Warriors, where they almost squandered a 20-point lead.
But expect no love lost when the fiercest collegiate rivals, who always seem to draw out the best from each other, meet again at 5 p.m. before a sell-out crowd.
During their first encounter this season, both teams were evenly matched, save for the charity shots from the 15-foot line where Ateneo went 18-for-27 against DLSU’s 14-for-20.
Both teams made six triples each and registered the same number of rebounds (42-42), turnovers (19-19), inside points (34-34) and perimeter points (24-24).
Sophomore Joshua Webb, who personified the Green Archers’ youthful energy with a career-high 26 points against the Eagles, is expected to be a marked man this time.
Reigning MVP Rabeh Al-Hussaini, who missed the final 10 minutes of last week's match with a sprained ankle, is looking to redeem himself from a lackluster game last Sunday, when he was blocked twice by DLSU’s Yutien Andrada.
Ateneo’s big man got his bearings back when he exploded for a season-high 30 points against UE last Thursday.
Meanwhile, the resurgent Falcons will meet the faltering Warriors in the curtain-raiser at noon.
Tickets for each game were sold separately and have been sold out since last Thursday.
A limited number of General Admission tickets for the ADMU-DLSU game will be sold starting at 3 p.m.
Studio 23 will air the AdU-UE game on a slightly delayed basis at 2 p.m. while the ADMU-DLSU rematch will start at 4:45 p.m.
