Land Rover RP team competes in China off-road race
MANILA, Philippines – The country will be represented by Team Land Rover Philippines in the 2nd China-Sanya International Off-Road 4x4 Challenge (CSIC) which begins on Wednesday.
The CSIC, which will be held at Hainan Island in Sanya, China until August 24, is also called the Summer Rainforest Challenge (RFC).
“We call it the Summer RFC because it takes place in August and apart from its tourism potential, it’s a good time to test man, machine, endurance and preparation before December, where RFC will take place in Malaysia,” RFC creator and founder Luis J.A. Wee said in a statement.
The sports tourism event follows the same format as the RFC in Malaysia, which is regarded as the world’s most internationally represented 4x4 event.
More than 500 participants, teams, spectators, and media from over 15 countries will converge in China’s southernmost city (Sanya) and the Hawaii of China (Hainan Island).

“We believe in the ability of the Filipino off-road racers to excel in international extreme off-road adventure competitions. This is a passion for living out the 4x4 adventure,” said Consunji.
“We are joining this race in China not only to compete, but to showcase driving abilities of our Filipino off-road racers and to bring pride to our country and our sponsors,” he added.
Soong, for his part, stated that they are banking on a great car and a great team.
“It is an amazing sight be in a foreign land and to see the Philippine flag flying behind the car as we always do. And in this sport, we Filipinos are very competitive and always finish on top,” said the official of LR Phils Motors, Inc., the exclusive distributor of Land Rover vehicles in the Philippines.
Last year, Team Land Rover Philippines won 3 awards – First Island Entry Award, Overall Champion in the electric winch category, and No. 5 ranking in the overall official results. (Read: Land Rover RP team aims for off-road top)
