Generals clobber Chiefs; Blazers win 3rd straight
MANILA – Emilio Aguinaldo College used a strong second half performance to give Arellano University a 79-63 thrashing in the 89th Season NCAA men’s basketball tournament on Saturday.
The Generals were trailing the Chiefs after two quarters, 30-36, when Cedric Happi fired 18 of his 19 points in the second half to turn their luck around.
Igee King added 20 points for EAC’s second straight win.
The Generals’ victory was nearly ruined when a commotion took place between their player Sidney Onwubere and the Chiefs’ James Forrester after the game.
EAC improved its record to 3-5, while Arellano fell to its sixth loss in eight games.
Meanwhile, College of St. Benilde won its third straight win by turning down a listless Mapua side, 84-64.
Dexter Garcia stepped up his game to tally 18 points, while Paolo Taha topscored for the Blazers with 24 points.
St. Benilde now holds sixth place with a 3-5 mark. The Cardinals remained at the bottom of the standings with 1-7 card.
