PH benchrest shooting team win medals in int'l tourney
MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Benchrest Shooting team arrived in Manila after their triumphant feat at the World Cup Benchrest Shooting in Pilzen, Czech Republic, which was participated by 21 countries.
The 19 member-team arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 on board Emirates Airline flight EK 332 from Czech Republic via Dubai.
The team was accorded airport courtesy assistance by Manila International Airport upon their arrival for bringing home six silver medals from the 15 day-competition.
Consul Dr. Jed Dayang, Philippine consul to Czech Republic, expressed gratitude to the Philippine team for their determination to bring honor to their country.
"It feels good and make us Filipinos proud whenever our competitors waived the Philippine flag in a foreign land," said Dayang.
Lorenzo Formoso, team co-captain, added that after their first international competition, the team will continue their practice for the next tournament.
“We believe that our team can perform much better after the first experience and we are determined at all cost to bring glory for our country " Formoso said.
The team consisted of Antonio Olbes, Enchong Formoso, coach Randy Paronda, Chim Esteban, Ely Canivel, Dondi Santos, Marlon Palmario, Felino Neri, Ronald Hejastro, Mario Rotea, Francis Perez, Louie Gonzalez, Jimmy Maniwang, Toby Gan, Jun Cruz, Noni Alvero, Augusto Estrada, Maria Parsons and Bernadette Gan.
The team is due to receive a presidential award for their success.
By 2015, the team is expected to participate in the Brisbane, Australia International Benchrest Shooting Competition. -- Report from Raoul Esperas
