Banchero impresses on first day of Draft tests

MANILA, Philippines – Guard Chris Banchero stole the show in the first day of the 2014 PBA Draft Combine as the former Asean Basketball League standout topped all categories in the skills test conducted at the Gatorade Hoops Center on Monday.

Banchero led the way in the Lane Agility Drill, finishing the challenge in 8.33 seconds, ahead of Hazel Foja (8.35 seconds) and Jericho Cruz (8.9 seconds).

He also topped the three-quarters court sprint, finishing the drill in only 2.91 seconds. Frank Bonifacio came in second place, finishing the sprint in three seconds flat, while Raymond Alcasabas finished it in 3.03 seconds.

Banchero also had the highest maximum vertical leap, registering a jump of 68.32 inches. Bonifacio again came second, with 64.31 inches, while Cruz was third with a leap of 62.97 inches.

Banchero also had the highest standing vertical leap, registering 33.73 inches. He also topped the shuttle run test, finishing the challenge in 16.87 seconds. Rocky Acidre clocked in at 17.29 seconds to finish second, followed by Foja at 17.33 seconds.

"I've been working hard ever since I started in the D-League," said Banchero, as quoted by PBA.ph. "I've been focusing on my diet and in my training every day. I've been very disciplined, and I've been looking forward to the PBA."

The 2014 PBA Rookie Draft will be held on August 24, with the GlobalPort Batang Pier picking first over all, and the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters picking second.
