CSB's Taha named NCAA Player of the Week
MANILA, Philippines - College of St. Benilde senior Paolo Taha was named the NCAA Player of the Week after a series of strong performances that allowed the Blazers to remain in the Final Four race of the Season 89 men's basketball tournament.
Taha has averaged 16.3 points in CSB's last three games, including a season-high 24 points explosion in the Blazers' 84-64 rout of the Mapua Cardinals.
With Taha at the forefront, the Blazers won all three of their past games after dropping their first five contests of the season, and are now in the mix to make the Final Four.
"He (Taha) is one of the leaders of this team and I expect him to have those kinds of games," St. Benilde coach Gabby Velasco said.
Taha beat his teammate Mark Romero, and the Perpetual Help pair of Juneric Baloria and Nigerian Nosa Omorogbe for the Gatorade-backed weekly plum given by the country's sportswriters covering the league.
With their 3-5 record, the Blazers have moved to a share of sixth place along with the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals.
