UAAP cancels Wednesday games
MANILA, Philippines -- The UAAP Season 76 seniors and women's games scheduled for August 21, Wednesday have been cancelled due to inclement weather, according to UAAP secretary-treasurer Malou Isip of hosts Adamson University.
"Due to the continuous rain and flood around the Metro, we are cancelling the UAAP Basketball Men and Women's games tomorrow," Isip said in a statement Tuesday.
The cancelled seniors games were: University of the East vs University of the Philippines; and Ateneo de Manila vs University of Sto. Tomas.
The cancelled women's games were: De La Salle vs University of the East; and Adamson vs Ateneo de Manila.
All games were supposed to be held at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Both games will be re-scheduled at a later date, and fans are advised to keep their tickets.
The UAAP has already cancelled the juniors games scheduled for today, while the Shakey's V-League has also cancelled their triple-header today at the San Juan Arena.
On Tuesday morning, weather bureau PAGASA raised a red rainfall alert over Metro Manila and nearby provinces, as rains spawned by the southwest monsoon and intensified by Tropical Storm Maring inundated those areas.
In an advisory issued 7:30 am, PAGASA said heavy to torrential rains are affecting Metro Manila, Rizal, Laguna, Bulacan, Zambales, Cavite, Bataan, Pampanga and Occidental Mindoro.
Moderate to heavy rains are affecting Batangas, Laguna and Quezon, and are likely to continue for the next three hours.
PAGASA said severe flooding is expected.
