MANILA, Philippines – Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) commissioner Chito Salud promised to hold out-of-town games in the league’s 40th season to bring the games closer to the fans.

In the past season, the PBA concentrated on helping the Philippine national basketball team prepare for the FIBA Asia Championship, where Gilas Pilipinas finished second.

“Ang maibabalita ko lamang na maaasahan ng ating fans ay babalik at makikita na muli kami sa probinsya,” Salud said in Eddie Alinea’s Philboxing report.

“We know we’d been remiss in giving our provincial fans games they were expecting, but we’ll make up for that,” he added.

Salud said they are looking at holding 10 to 12 games outside Metro Manila to cater to their fans in the provinces.

Provincial games have been a regular feature in the PBA calendar during the past 38 seasons of the league.

Meanwhile, Salud said he is proud that the league has helped the Philippine team reach the FIBA World Cup of Basketball through its successful stint in the FIBA Asia Championship.

“Yun lamang makita natin ang ating mga kababayan ay nanood ng lahat laro ng ating pambansang koponan ay sapat na para kami sa PBA matuwa,” Salud said.

“But what is more important is we ended up second and made it to the World Cup, a fact which we could only dream the past three decades, is something we all should be thankful for and be proud of,” added the PBA chief.
