Henderson wants 1 final belt in MMA career
MANILA, Philippines – Ageless mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Dan Henderson said he wants to get the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight belt to top the list of titles he has already collected in his professional career.
“[I have] two PRIDE [Fighting Championship] belts and a Strikeforce light heavyweight [belt]... I guess there's one more left, it will be my last and that's the UFC belt,” said the MMA legend in UFC.com.
But to get that belt, he will have to get past reigning champion Jon “Bones” Jones. Their title fight is scheduled to take place in Las Vegas, Nevada on September 1.
Henderson won his first PRIDE title by defeating Murilo Bustamante in the finals of the PRIDE welterweight tournament in 2005.
He nabbed his second PRIDE title by knocking out Wanderlei Silva in 2007 to win the PRIDE middleweight title.
In 2011, Henderson won the Strikeforce light heavyweight title by stopping Rafael Cavalcante.
Henderson said he’ll make the best of his chance to win a fourth MMA title against the 6-foot-4 Jones.
“[I’ll] make sure that I'd come out on top no matter how it takes. If I can do what I know I could do, I'm gonna beat anyone out there. No matter how big they are or how small they are,” he said.
