NU cagers book Fr. Martin victories
MANILA, Philippines -- The National University (NU) juniors and seniors teams both came up with convincing wins in the 11th Fr. Martin Division 2 tournament even as the Diliman Computer Technology Institute (DCTI) Senators pulled off an upset.
The NU Bulldogs, led by Ralph Napa and Alfred Aroga, clobbered the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons, 87-63, in Group A of the senior division at the St. Placid gymnasium in San Beda.
Napa fired a game-high 16 points for the Bulldogs, who marched to their third win in four matches.
Aroga, meanwhile, scored 11 points and made seven of it in the second period as the Bulldogs broke free from a 12-all deadlock in the first quarter and soared to a 45-22 halftime lead.
The Bulldogs moved behind the University of Perpetual Help Altas (3-0), the San Beda Red Lions (4-1) and the La Salle Green Archers (3-1) in their group.
The NU Bullpups, meanwhile, rode the hot hand of Jordan sta. Ana as they beat the San Sebastian Staglets, 83-60, in the Group A of juniors action.
Sta. Ana scored 26 points for the Bullpups, built on eight three-pointers.
Meanwhile, the DCTI Senators drew big baskets from Mark Yaon when they shocked the College of St. Benilde Blazers, 65-51, in Group A of another senior contest.
Yaon tallied 24 points, as the Senators went on to notch their second win in five assignments.
