La Salle, Xavier win in Fr. Martin

MANILA, Philippines – The De La Salle Green Archers and the Xavier School Golden Stallions banked on the steady hands of their newcomers and veterans alike in brushing past their rivals last Tuesday in the 10th Fr. Martin Division 2 Cup.

The Green Archers, led by newbies Jason Perkins, Mustapha Yankie Haruna and Gabriel Reyes, outplayed the Angeles University Foundation (AUF) Great Danes, 69-62, at the Trinity University of Asia gym in Quezon City.

Perkins fired 21 points, Haruna delivered 15 and Reyes scored 12 for the Green Archers as they romped off with their second win in three outings in Group B.

The Green Archers finally pulled away from the Great Danes in the last 23 seconds when Reyes scored on a lay-up and Robert Ricafort made a free throw.

Scoring ace Kyle Lao produced 13 points for the Stallions, who demolished the AUF Junior Danes, 80-56, in the juniors division.

The Golden Stallions posted their second consecutive victory. They are currently behind the San Beda Red Cubs, who got 15 points from Marc Decapia as they walloped San Benildo, 77-65.

In other games, Ivan Reyes tallied 18 points for the University of Santo Tomas Red Cubs in their 80-62 triumph over EAC-iCA, while Vince Tolentino fired 15 points for thee Ateneo Blue Eaglets as they prevailed over University of Perpetual Help, 54-50.

Daniel Pabalan tallied 16 points for FEU-Fern as they beat University of the East, 62-54.
