'El Granada' saves the day for GlobalPort
MANILA – Gary David’s game-winning triple lifted GlobalPort past Alaska Milk, 91-88, in the PBA Governors’ Cup at the Araneta Coliseum on Friday.
“El Granada” scored six of his 10 points in the final three minutes and led the Batang Pier over the fancied Aces.
“He showed he has the heart. He drained that game-winner,” said GlobalPort coach Junel Baculi in the league’s official website.
Baculi also praised his other veteran players for stepping up during crunch time.
Markeith Cummings top-scored for the Batang Pier with 28, while two-time MVP Willie Miller and former Petron Blaze stalwart Jay Washington combined for 25 points.
“We have seven new guys and an import seeing action here for the first time, so yung mga beterano na lang talaga ang kailangang magdala, to show the way for their teammates,” said Baculi.
The scores were tied 88-all when Sol Mercado fed David with an assist. David conveniently positioned at the right corner and fired the game winner 9.3 seconds remaining.
It was the Batang Pier’s second win in three starts.
Alaska’s loss spoiled Wendell McKines’ PBA debut. The 6’5” import scored 28 points and collected 13 boards.
