NCAA: Perpetual subdues Lyceum
MANILA -- Perpetual Help vanquished Lyceum, 65-60, on Saturday to move up to a share of third place with Jose Rizal University and College of St. Benilde in the 90th NCAA basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.
Gab Dagangon came off the bench to score 14 points, including 2 triples in the fourth period, to tow the Altas to their 6th win against 4 defeats, good enough for third place alongside the Bombers and the Blazers.
"I expected him to play like that because he's really a good player, he just needs more experience," said Perpetual Help coach Aric del Rosario of Dagangon, a 21-year-old rookie transferee out of Industrial College of Davao.
Juneric Baloria and Harold Arboleda tallied 12 and 10 points, respectively. Justine Alano chipped in 14 while Earl Scottie Thompson added 10 and a game-high 15 boards, 4 assists and a steal to continue to lead the MVP statistical race.
But in the end, it was Dagangon who shone the brightest.
Dexter Zamora paced the Pirates with 18 points while Jospeh Gabyani had another double-double effort with 14 points and 10 boards. Lyceum missed the services of Shane Ko, who was in a hospital yesterday after reporting sick the day before.
Lyceum fell to 5-5.
