Bradley: Pacquiao will do damage vs Rios
MANILA – Brandon Rios may be a difficult opponent to beat, but Timothy Bradley believes Manny Pacquiao can foil the Mexican-American’s head-on fighting style.
Bradley, who snatched Pacquiao’s WBO welterweight belt via a controversial decision, said the Filipino boxer can string his punches together to stop a charging Rios.
“You know, Brandon Rios is a very tough opponent,” Bradley said in Boxing Scene. “He comes to fight. If you really know Manny Pacquiao, guys who come straight at him, he does his best work when guys come straight at him."
Bradley said one chink in Rios’ armor is his lack of head movement.
He said the Mexican boxer will be a perfect target for Pacquiao’s quick hands.
“He’s just straight down the middle all the time,” Bradley said. “And Pacquiao, everybody knows, he throws his combinations. [If] he puts them together, he’s going to do damage.”
Bradley also disagreed with claims that Pacquiao’s boxing skills are already deteriorating.
He believes the Filipino superstar can still beat elite fighters, despite the latter’s knockout loss to Juan Manuel Marquez.
“I definitely will pick Pacquiao in this fight,” Bradley said of the Filipino’s chances versus Rios.
“I think he has a lot left in the tank. I think his speed, his movement, his power that he carries; I think he’ll be able to display it against Brandon Rios. Because, Brandon Rios is straight forward. His head don’t move to the side.”
