MANILA, Philippines – Filipino lightweight boxer Jimrex Jaca will have his hands full in “Philippines vs. the World” this Saturday when he faces off with the son of legendary Mexican great Jose “Pipino” Cuevas.

Jaca is scheduled to slug it out at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino with Cuevas Jr., a former WBC Latino super featherweight titlist with 12 knockouts in 14 wins.

Cuevas Jr. is expected to bring into the ring the same ferociousness his father has shown in the late ‘70s up to the early ‘80s.

Cuevas Sr. reigned as the World Boxing Association (WBA) welterweight champ for 4 years until he lost to another boxing great, Tommy Hearns in 1980.

Jaca himself is coming off back-to-back knock out victories over Ramadhan Weriu of Indonesia and James Kimori of Kenya.

He credited his success to the boxing training he received from Cebu’s ALA (Antonio L. Aldeguer) Boxing Gym.

“The ALA training regimen is harder,” Jaca said in a report by PhilBoxing.com, “But I feel I have improved a lot.”

In facing Cuevas Jr., he will be staking his record of 30 wins, 6 losses and 3 draws.

Headlining “Philippines vs the World” is the featherweight clash between Rey “Boom Boom” Bautista and Alejandro Barrera.

Also fighting in the undercard are Milan “Milenyo” Melindo versus South Korean flyweight champ Jin-Man Jeon and Florante Condes versus Indon Sofyan Effendi.
