Air21 suffers blowout to streaking Petron
MANILA – Petron Blaze gave Air21 a 112-86 shellacking in the PBA Governors’ Cup at the MOA Arena on Wednesday for at least a share of the lead in the standings.
Import Elijah Millsap, brother of NBA player Paul Millsap, scored 27 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as he led the way for the Boosters’ third straight win.
The 26-year-old former NBA D-League player poured in 13 points in the pivotal third quarter to help Petron break away from Air21, 82-60.
Four of the locals also stepped up, each scoring double figures, with the Boosters breezing through the Express’ defenses.
Junermar Fajardo had 17 points while Chris Lassiter and Alex Cabagnot each scored 13. Arwind Santos added 12 for Petron.
“I’m very happy with this win,” said Petron coach Gee Abanilla in the league website.
Zach Graham paced Air21 with 19 points. Nino Canaleta and Nelbert Omolon were the only other Express players who delivered double digits for Air21.
Canaleta finished the game with 16 points while Omolon scored 10.
The Express fell to their third loss in four games.
Abanilla and the rest of the Boosters will be bracing for a tight schedule starting with a Sunday game against last year’s runner up San Mig Coffee.
“Because of the schedule, it will be more on mental,” said Abanilla.
”We’ll work on some things. At times, we’re sloppy in executing in defense, especially when we have a big margin.”
