'Marquez will surprise Bradley with speed'
MANILA, Philippines – Boxing trainer Nacho Beristain vowed to unleash a “completely different” Juan Manuel Marquez when the Mexican boxer meets WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley on October 12.
If Bradley is expecting to fight the version of Marquez that knocked out Pacquiao, then he is for a surprise, according to the boxing coach.
“They’re going to find a completely different Juan Manuel Marquez than they saw against Pacquiao. Very strong, he’s gained speed. He’s dedicated to giving the Latino people another great victory,” Beristain said in Luis Sandoval’s Boxing Scene report.
Beristain said Marquez, 40, is showing agility and lightning reflexes not usually found in boxers his age.
“He’s exceeding the level even though it's odd seeing it at his age. He’s going to give you all a surprise,” he said
The trainer added that speed coupled with technique will accentuate Marquez’s defensive style of fighting.
“We are working on a lot of defense because when you make Bradley miss, it’s like his batteries drain a bit. We intend on beating him [using] Mexican technique versus Bradley’s technique,” Beristain said.
