Tolomia vows Tams will work hard in coach's absence
MANILA, Philippines – Far Eastern University (FEU) guard Mike Tolomia said the team will continue to work hard especially with head coach Nash Racela out of the country to attend to his duties with the Philippine national basketball team.
Tolomia and the rest of the Tamaraws sent Racela off to Spain on a winning note as they snapped De La Salle's seven-game winning streak with a 74-70 win last Wednesday, a game wherein Tolomia scored 22 points and made the game-clinching play.
"Tutuloy pa rin namin 'yung sistema na iniwan niya sa amin bago siya umalis," Tolomia said before Racela left Wednesday night to join Gilas Pilipinas.
"Magiging okay naman kami sa next two games," he added.
Racela will miss two games – against the University of the Philippines on August 30 and against Adamson on September 3.
Racela is relieved to be leaving the team on a high note.
"Ang hirap, if you travel for about 20 hours tapos talo ka, baka hindi ako makatulog for 20 hours just thinking about the game," he joked. "So ngayon, medyo okay thanks to my players and coaching staff."
The coach is confident that his team will continue to do well even with him abroad.
"In our team, our relationship is based on trust," he explained. "So right now, we developed that trust in each other."
"Kahit mawala ang isa, alam namin na kayang punuan ng iba," Racela added.
