Banal says it’s 'safer' to fight in Manila

MANILA, Philippines – AJ “Bazooka” Banal said he prefers to fight in Manila than in Thailand, where he claims judges and referees favor homegrown boxers.

Banal, who faces Pungluang Sor Singyu for the World Boxing Organization (WBO) bantamweight belt, said he is pleased that the title fight will take place at his turf instead in Thailand.

"It's a better opportunity in Manila because Manila has very honest judges and referees," said Banal in RingTV. "Thailand is very dirty. It's very difficult with the judges and referees, unlike here."

The Banal-Sor Singyu fight serves as the main event of Pinoy Pride XVII which takes place on October 20 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

Sor Singyu, for his part, said the venue makes no difference to him as he is confident that he could beat Banal.

"I don't worry about this," said Sor Singyu. "The referee is from outside, but to make sure I will knock him out."
